We spent a couple of days visiting our friend Wayne in Fontes, a small
village near Montpellier. He has friends, Rachel and Brian, who have a
house there and were very kind in welcoming us. It was also lovely to met Geoff
and Pam who were staying with them. We actually stayed with other friends in the
village, Ribenna and Stephen. They have a wonderful home in Fontes and
they made us very comfortable!
This is Wayne, outside of Rachel and Brian's house in Fontes. It was
wonderful to see him!
Wayne and Roberta at Villeneuvette. This is a tiny village that was once
an important fabric factory (Wayne - is this right?) The factory is now
ruined and the village is extremely quaint in beautiful surroundings.
The art installation in Villeneuvette. This prompted much puzzlement and
speculation in everyone!
Roberta at a cafe in Pezanas. This is a wonderful little town, with
excellent handbag shops! Some kind of record was set here as Roberta
managed to buy a bag within two hours of stepping off the plane!
Wayne at the same cafe. Enjoying the coffee and the local sights.
Glen on his mobile in the tin-can renault. Unfortunately Glen had a few
conference calls as he was only half on holiday!
Wild weather coming over outside Fontes. It was a lovely day and then
suddenly this storm turned up, giving some amazing contrasts in the sky.
Glen and Roberta by one of the vinyards around Fontes. There seems to be a
bit of a mono-culture in the region with vinyards everywhere. The great
thing is, that this means lots of yummy wine at very reasonable prices. It
was also interesting being there at the end of the harvest, as we saw some of
the grape picking and crushing. Some is still picked by hand but others by
machine.
Wayne and Roberta on the way to get water from the local spring.
The church at Fontes.
Filling the water bottles at the spring. Very delicious water and much
cheaper than Evian - free!
Wayne checking his washing in the courtyard.
Cats near a village on the way to Rocquefort.
We did a day trip to Rocquefort but unfortunately weren't allowed to take
photos in the cellars. The cheese was yummy and we bought some to take
back to London.
