Everglades Plant Life
Everglades Habitats The habitats in the Everglades are determined by the amount of water in the system and by the relative elevation of the land. The whole area is very flat, but the environment changes from low-lying, slow moving rivers called sloughs to slightly elevated mounds called hammocks. Most of the pictures above were taken along a slough (pronounced 'slew'), but here are some other kinds of habitat.
