Tokyo Temples

Home Up

Tokyo is full of a myriad temples and shrines, from small local Inari Shrines to huge Buddhist temple complexes like Senso-ji at Asakusa.  Here are some of them.

Visiting Senso-ji Temple, Asakusa

Asakusa is an area on the north-eastern side of Tokyo and Senso-ji is probably one of the most famous temples in the city.  It was founded about AD628 when two brothers fished a golden image of the bodhisattva Kannon out of the nearby Sumida river.  Senso-ji is very vibrant and extremely busy on the weekends.  These photos were taken on a Saturday morning.
