Inside the Church
An altar inside the church.
The interior of the church.
A memorial to Dante. He died in exile from Florence in 1321 and is actually
buried in Ravenna. This memorial was erected in 1829.
Galileo's tomb. Galileo was excommunicated by the church in 1616 and so
was denied Christian burial until 1737. I couldn't help but wonder if he
wouldn't have rather stayed where he was.
Machiavelli's tomb. He died in 1527 and was buried where his memorial
stands. However, the memorial itself wasn't completed until 1787.
Michelangelo's tomb. He had planned a Pieta for his tomb, but was unable
to finish it. The current tomb was designed by Vasari in 1570.

and at night. He looks sort of grumpy in this photo - daytime Dante's evil
