The river Arno at Florence.
This photo was taken looking in the opposite direction than the one above,
looking towards the Ponte Vecchio.
Oltrarno. This means literally 'Over the Arno'. The Palazzo Pitti
and the Boboli Gardens are on this side of the river.
Roberta by the river.
The Duomo in Florence. It was very difficult to find a spot to take the
photo, as there is not much open space around the cathedral. It is quite
interesting that this is pretty much the only large traditional Roman Catholic
complex in Florence. Most of the others were built by reforming orders
like the Franciscans.
There was a lot of amazing metal work around, especially doorknockers like this
one.
This statue commemorated the unification of Italy and the partisans who fought
in the struggle.
There were tons of tiny shops around the Piazza Santa Croce that specialised in
handmade books and paper.
We visited this very inviting grocery on Borgo San' Apostoli a couple of times.
There are loads of these street cafes around Florence. Just plonked down
in the middle of the road! Food is delicious though, if you can put up
with the constant whine of the creatures in the next photo.
One of the more major annoyances of Florence - Vespas! Vespa means
'wasp' in italian. These scooters sound just like huge overgrown versions
of these nasty insects and are just as irritating!
