Amberley Castle

Home Up

Here are some photos of the castle and us having a wonderful time, eating lots of delicious food and enjoying the splendid surroundings.

amberley2.jpg (150205 bytes)    amberley3.jpg (278488 bytes)    The entrance to the castle.  It was built in 1103, so this year is Amberley's 900th anniversary!  The portcullis is put down at midnight and then raised again at 7am.

Amberley1.jpg (204853 bytes)    This is our room, complete with four poster bed and open fire.  Very romantic!

Amberley4.jpg (282547 bytes)    Amberley5.jpg (233314 bytes)    Some views of the inside of the castle.  Our room was in the main part, just across from the Queen's room where the restaurant is.  We had two wonderful dinners there and the English breakfast is among the best I've ever had.

Amberley6.jpg (194870 bytes)    Amberley7.jpg (193397 bytes)    Amberley8.jpg (276401 bytes)    Amberley9.jpg (147964 bytes)    The gardens inside the castle are rather elegant.  It is possible to climb up onto the battlements, through the tower in the first picture.  Unfortunately, there are a lot of pigeons living inside, so it's a bit mucky!  A great view from the top and Glen took some of the photos from there.

Amberley_G&R1.jpg (138605 bytes)    Amberley_G&R2.jpg (220894 bytes)    Us at dinner.  We dressed up quite a bit, which was a lot of fun.  I think Amberley has one of the best restaurants I've been to, and a great wine list as well!
